Trotters’ Have Mixed Late Fortunes![]() Bolton Wanderers had one victory gifted to them and one draw snatched away from them late in their two most recent EPL fixtures. But the Trotters final transfer window business was made to look very good by on-loan striker Daniel Sturridge’s goal in each of those games, especially the stoppage-time winner against EPL strugglers Wolves last midweek. However, Sturridge’s goal was not enough to prevent a 2-1 defeat at Tottenham last Saturday which left manager Owen Coyle incensed at the match officials’ display. Sturridge took full advantage of a stoppage-time mistake by Wolves’ Ronald Zubar to give the Trotters a 1-0 win over Wolves, two days after arriving at the Reebok on-loan until the end of the season. Sturridge quickly made good his pledge to help Bolton “move up the table now.” And Coyle hailed the 21-year-old as “a terrific young talent who I believe will have a very positive impact.” Coyle was less complimentary about Mark Clattenberg after the Tottenham defeat, when the referee booked defender Gary Cahill for diving in the penalty area, with the score still 1-1. Coyle described the incident as “a stonewall penalty,” and added: “This is a good result that’s been taken away from us. “To compound that and say Gary Cahill was cheating in trying to gain a penalty, that’s one thing that lad would never do.” Niko Kranjcar’s late winner for Tottenham leaves Bolton eighth in the EPL. Wanderers host mid-table Everton in a Lancashire derby in the EPL this coming Saturday. Tags: Bolton Wanderers, EPL, Trotters, Owen Coyle, Gary Cahill Posted: |
