Tottenham Hotspur 2008/9The first eight games of the 2008/9 season saw Spurs gain only two points - their worst ever start to a league campaign. A win on the road at Newcastle in the Carling Cup and a solitary home win against Wisla Krakow in the UEFA Cup was all Spurs managed in the first two months and the 2-0 defeat at Udinese was enough to see Juande Ramos removed from his position. ![]() In what appeared a less than surprise move, Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp was announced as his successor inside 24 hours. Redknapp had an immediate impact as the team beat Bolton 2-0. After a spectacular 4-4 draw at the Emirates, the team went on to record four straight wins. They ended the year with a considerable upturn in form. The start of 2009 saw Robbie Keane return to the fold and Spurs continued to make progress. The second half of the season saw a vast improvement and Spurs ended the season with a loss to Liverpool which left them 2 points from a Europa Cup spot, something which six months ago looked a world away. Harry will no doubt looked to further strengthen the squad in the summer although whether long-term target Stewart Downing will finally sign is still unknown given the injury sustained by the player at the end of the season.
