Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard thinks the Premiership trophy would already be in his hands had Fernando Torres not suffered continually from a recurring hamstring problem.

 

The Spanish striker forged a fantastic partnership with the England man last season and they provided a combined total of more than 50 goals between them. But consistency has been hard to find for the Reds this season with both players suffering injuries, Torres finding his season blighted by an injury that could just well have robbed Anfield of it’s first title in two decades.

Gerrard himself said "I've said many times that Fernando is a top player and he is easy to play alongside. He doesn't just score top goals, he can set goals up as well. The frustrating thing for both of us is that we haven't been on the pitch together far more times this season.”

Argentinian midfielder Javier Mascherano has refuted rumours that he will be leaving Anfield and maintains that he will stay on Merseyside to help the club chase the league title. "My future is here," said the 24-year-old, "I will continue to give 100 per cent. It will always be like this.”
