Derby midfielder Giles Barnes is going to see a specialist about his knee injury.

The specialist he will see, Dr Richard Steadman has treated Newcastle United striker Michael Owen, Real Madrid forward Ruud Van Nistelrooy and former Newcastle legend Alan Shearer over the years. He could have immediate surgery on the knee if it is needed.

Premier League side Derby sit rock bottom of the table and have being missing Barnes in their last couple of games. Derby manager Paul Jewell is confident the best surgeon in the world will be able to get Giles Barnes back to full fitness again. Jewell also said that he doubts if Barnes will play again this season.

The good news for Derby is the fact that the injury sustained has no connection with any ligament damage.

Barnes has no doubt been Derby’s best player this season, a season in which they have really struggled and find themselves bottom of the Premier League. They have only won one game all season, a win back in September against Newcastle.

Giles Barnes finds himself in the treatment room with team mates Claude Davis, Tyrone Mears and defender Danny Mills, who is on loan from Manchester City.
