David Moyes guided Everton through to the last 8 of the FA Cup for the first time under his reign…and then admitted that he really expected to lose.

 

The 3-1 victory over form team Aston Villa at Goodison Park courtesy of goals from Jack Rodwell, Mikel Arteta and Tim Cahill left a pleasantly surprised Moyes saying "To be honest I thought this could be one bridge too far with the amount of injuries we had."

With so many players either out as long-term casualties or playing out of their natural position, the Scot could be forgiven for that this just could be his year.

Aussie Tim Cahill wore a black armband as a mark of respect for the lives lost in the recent bush fires in his homeland. His pointed to the band on scoring Everton’s third goal and said afterwards “I dedicated the goal to the people who have lost their lives in Australia in the bushfires. It has affected all the Australian national team and puts everything into perspective“.
