Toffees Expensive Victory

Everton completed a fine 1-0 away victory against AEK Athens and progressed through to the last 32 of the Europe League. But their progress has come at a cost as the Toffee injury jinx struck once again.

David Moyes was pleased with his sides performance but must despair as the list of unavailable players was increased by 3. James Vaughan, Phils Jagielka and Neville are already missing along with Leon Osman, Victor Anichebe, Mikel Arteta and Jack Rodwell. When Dan Gosling and Sylvain Distin both failed to make it past the first quarter of the match in Greece, Moyes must have despaired. As Jo departed during the second half, Everton were threatened with having to play the rest of the match with ten men were anyone else to have suffered an injury. However, despite hanging on for their victory, the young players on whom Moyes had to call may be seeing their minutes of first team action increasing over the coming weeks although the Scot isn’t too worried at present.

"I am pleased with how the young boys who came on and did," said Moyes, "It's great experience for them; one or two are maybe stepping up a bit soon but it's needs must at the moment."
