The Joke’s On You Rafa

Rafael Benitez criticising Blackburn for having a negative style of play is a bit like John Terry lecturing Ashley Cole on his recent infidelity.

Rovers are an easy target to have a go at. They are managed by Sam Allardyce, have limited resources and posses few players of star quality – they are not going to astound us with one touch football.

And Liverpool’s boss is the last manager in the league fit to mock their set up. Benitez is a Spanish coach from a cultured background and in charge of one of the biggest names in world football, yet has the Reds playing in a tactical straight jacket  – so it makes his comments, in which he sarcastically suggested Barcelona are thinking of copying Blackburn, sound even worse.

Even the Anfield support have expressed their frustration at the team’s conservative approach and they only recently played out arguably the worst game of the season in their goalless draw at Manchester City.

In trying to divert attention away from his own team’s deficiencies by going for cheap laughs, Benitez ironically ends up the bigger joke.
