Tevez Deal Close

Sir Alex Ferguson is expecting a timely end to the transfer wrangle surrounding £30 million target striker Carlos Tevez. The West Ham player is currently on international duty with the Copa America for Argentina but the Manchester United manager believes a deal can be wrapped up before he returns.

Present club West Ham in conjunction with the Premier League are refusing to sanction a move to champions United after the controversy of last season. Terms have been agreed with the player’s agent Joorabchian but the Hammers are claiming ownership of the player.

Tevez was allowed to play the final games of the 2006-07 Premier League season after the third party agreement surrounding the player was reportedly ripped up. However, the players agent is rightly claiming that Tevez remains his property and the financial benefits of any transfer should come to him.

Manchester United’s legal boffins including Maurice Watkins are now left to find a solution as the Premier League administration stand their ground. A deal for Tevez was supposed to be completed by last weekend before the Premier League added their influence.

The transfer of Carlos Tevez will complete a summer of top signings for the Premier League giants. By extending his squad Sir Alex Ferguson hopes to retain the Premiership crown whilst using added depth to avoid last years errors in Europe. Manchester United failed to significantly impact on the European stage as a limited squad and high number of games led to a number of tired players. They bowed out in the semi finals of the UEFA Champions League.
