Tevez Affair Haunts Hammers

Two season after the Carlos Tevez affair saw Sheffield United cruelly relegated from the Premiership, the Football Association and the Premier League are to take a second look into the case.

The new investigation will examine the relationship and activities between the Upton Park club and the representatives of Tevez himself. Claims that the troublesome third party agreement remained in force despite assurances given to the contrary mean could mean that, had the fact come to light at the time, the Premier League would have no option but to suspend Tevez. This would of course have relieved West Ham United of his services which were worth at least the 3 points that eventually saw the Hammers to safety.

The Premier League fined the club £5.5M at the time and Sheffield United subsequently launched a compensation claim for 10 times that amount.

Many inside and outside the game were convinced at the time that had the club involved not been a London club the fine would have turned into a points deduction similar to that which saw Middlesbrough relegated some ten years previously. The result of this latest development will be eagerly awaited.
