Sven-Goran Eriksson may only just have taken charge at Manchester City. However he has already been heavily linked with Toulouse forward Elmander. Elmander was also targeted by French Ligue champions Lyon but a £7 million bid was rejected.

One of the main issues in a woeful season for Manchester City was an inherent lack of goal scoring ability. City managed to score only 29 goals in the Premier League during the 2006-07 season so desperately need to land some attacking talent. Since his appointment at City Sven-Goran Eriksson has made it a top priority to improve the attacking capabilities at the club. The pricetag surrounding Elmander is uncertain but with the backing of new club owner Thaksin Shinawatra funds should be easy to acquire to prise the player from Toulouse and into the Premiership.

There are now less than 5 weeks until the start of the new season. Eriksson knows he needs to move fast in light of the departure of Joey Barton and Sylvain Distin from an already weakened club.
