Manchester City are looking to pull off a £14 million deal for striker Afonso Alves. The Brazilian was due to sign for AZ Alkmaar from Heerenveen but the deal fell through at the last minute.

Alves scored an amazing 35 goals in 31 appearances last season and Eriksson is believed to be a big fan of the player. Alves has also reportedly welcomed a move to England in the hope that he can maintain his place in the Brazilian squad.

"My dream is to play in the Premier League in England. That will help me stay in the Brazil set-up," Alves told the Sunday Mirror.
