Stadium Still In The Mix

Everton’s continued mission to find a new home worthy of a 21st century football club continues despite the latest setback.

Club CEO Bobby Elstone will leave no stone unturned in his quest to finally secure a new venue in which the Toffees can play their home games. However, he acknowledges that good intentions alone will not bring the desired result. He said “What’s evident to me is within the club, its fans, the city and our advisers, there’s no shortage of ideas and creativity. There is, however, a shortage of money and that’s where there’s a real need for creativity and collaboration.”

Meanwhile, Leighton Baines is relishing the chance to prove himself worthy of a place in Fabio Capello’s World Cup squad with a good showing against Egypt, if selected to play. With Ashley Cole and Wayne Bridge both looking unlikely to feature in the summer for different reasons, Baines has a real opportunity to shine. “I was delighted to get called up," said Baines to the club's official website. "Obviously it's been on my mind for one reason or another and people have been talking about it so it was nice to get the call. The fact that Everton have been playing so well has helped."
