Spirit is high : PalopWhile the most anticipated Euro 2008 has been gaining momentum, Sevilla FC president has made it very clear that goalkeeper Andres Palop is not for sale at any price. But despite being valued so much by the club Palop is only the third choice for the national team. Although the two goalkeepers Iker Casillas and Pepe Reina are blocking his way to a starting role at UEFA Euro 2008 there is no sign of depression from the 34 year old.
Palop said he is very happy and proud to be a part of the mega event. He was all praise for Casillas and Reina and added that they were a joy to train with. He complimented Casillas by calling him a complete goalkeeper who reads the game very well and reminded everybody that Reina was named keeper of the year in England.
It now seems unbelievable that a player of Palop’s class and talent has been sitting on the bench at Valencia CF and waiting for so many years for a chance. After his move to Sevilla, they have won two UEFA cups, a Spanish cup and a super cup. Although Palop might not get a chance to play in the eleven in Euro 2008, he is confident that he will return from the tournament with a lot of experience. The goalkeeper said, “So much has happened to me in my life - and lately I've gone from never playing to playing every single game. I know how to handle this and what to do and I'll still be ready if I'm needed. I never like to talk myself up but the fact is that I've had nothing which was easy or handed to me in my life. My life has been littered with obstacles – bad moments, uncertainty – but I'm a fighter and the very fact that I'm here tells the whole story."
Spain have already progressed from Group D, which features the likes of Russia, Greece and Sweden. Tags: Euro 2008, Andres Palop, Spain, Group D Posted: |
