The gulf in class between Spain and Honduras was as wide as the division in the French camp. And yet the Spaniards could be left to rue their finishing despite strolling to a win full of verve and style.

Spain squandered so many glorious opportunities, let down by an over-hit pass or a wayward strike on goal. But it would be an even bigger worry if they weren’t creating anything.

Their game with Chile should be a thrilling watch. Some games have been a real let down at this World Cup after all the hype, but the Euro 2008 winners and the South Americans only know one way to play the game.

It’s just a shame one of them could miss out on goal difference in the World Cup.
