Socceroos Retain Hope

Despite only a single point from their opening two games and two red cards, the Australian squad still believe that they can reach the latter stages of South Africa 2010 according to captain Lucas Neill.

The 4-0 defeat by Germany was followed up by a disappointing draw against Ghana. The sending off of Harry Kewell for handball rules him out of the crunch clash with Serbia but Tim Cahill will return after serving a one-match ban for his dismissal against the Germans. Harry Kewell was distraught at his dismissal even though the ball clearly hit his upper arm.

Despite the World Cup set-backs, Neill said “There is unbelievable belief with the team. We’re still here and the nation shouldn’t give up on us because we haven’t given up.”

The Aussies will also be without defender Craig Moore for their last Group D match after he picked up his second yellow of the tournament.
