Slovenia v Romania
Second placed Romania will be hoping to equal the Netherlands in terms of points when they travel to fifth-placed Slovenia on 2 June. There are minor injury worries for coach Victor Piturca, who has included two new faces in his squad for the two Euro 2008 qualifying games against Slovenia.
Second-choice goalkeeper Danut Coman has sustained an injury ruling him out of the ties and handing a chance to FC Universitatea Craiova goalkeeper Mircea Bornescu. Another injury worry is midfielder Mirel Radoi, who has a serious knee complaint. His place in the squad is taken by 25-year-old central defender Gabriel Muresan.
Romania thrashed Luxemburg 3-0 in their last game and will be looking to collect six points from their two matches this month. Adrian Mutu, Cosmin Contra and Ciprian Marica scored for the Romanians with Mutu playing a special game. If they collect six points from their games this month, Romania could very well top the group. Slovenia v Romania will take place this weekend in the Euro 2008 qualifier stage.
Slovenia meanwhile are hoping to thwart Romania's plans. Slovenia coach Matjaž Kek has called up Luka Elsner and Zlatan Ljubijankič for the two games. The coach said the duo had proved their worth and deserved their chance. "They proved their quality in the Slovenian league, so I have given them a chance. I want to have a chance to see them and I want them to experience the national team atmosphere," he added.
Kek said he is hoping his team is able to spoil Romania's plans to grab the six points. "At the moment we are focused on the first match in Celje. We are hoping to win and after that we will start to prepare for the second match."
Romania are placed second in Group G with 11 points from five matches, while Slovenia occupy the fifth spot with four points from five matches. Tags: Romania, Slovenia, Euro 2008 qualifier, Slovenia v Romania Posted: |
