Slovenia have qualified to the World Cup just once before in their short history after making it to the 2002 World Cup. However it proved to be a disappointing debut for the side as they lost all of their three games and finished at the bottom of their group table.

Road to 2010 World Cup

Slovenia were picked in a tough qualification group along with Czech Republic, Northern Ireland, Poland and arch rivals Slovakia. However an excellent home form coupled with a decent away record saw them pip more fancied opponents to finish second in the group table before pulling off an upset result against Russia to qualify to the World Cup this summer.

Coach Matjaz Kek has kept faith with the players that helped Slovenia qualify to the World Cup and has decided against picking Haris Vuckic and Klemen Lavric in spite of speculation that they will be included in the squad.
