Skoko and Olembe offloaded by Latics

Wigan Athletic have released Josip Skoko and Salomon Olembe after the duo failed to get new contracts at the JJB.

Australian midfielder Skoko, who arrived from Genclerbirligi in August 2005, played 45 Premier League games for Wigan. Wigan have made him an offer to join them in pre season training and maintain his fitness if he does not find a new club by then. Skoko's British work permit expires in a year, and he can only stay in the UK if he plays for Athletic. A move back to Belgium, or newer pastures in the form of Germany or Holland is likely to materialise for the retired Socceroo.

Olembe was signed by Wigan on a one year deal after he was released by Marseille. Turkish club Kayserispor seems to be the next destination for the Cameroonian, where he will be joined by Julius Aghahowa.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Chris Kirkland has signed a new four year deal which will keep him with the Latics till 2012.
