Steve Sidwell, Aston Villa’s summer signing from Chelsea has been talking about his delight at scoring on his debut for the club after missing the first two months of the season through injury.

Sidwell grabbed the last goal in Villa’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Wigan Athletic at the weekend. The former Reading midfielder said “It was nice just to get on the pitch really…I just wanted to get on and show people what I can do. It was a little appearance but a big goal. It feels like a weight has been lifted”.

After a disappointing season at Stamford Bridge, Sidwell made a £5 Million move to Villa Park in June. Now that he is free from injury the 25 year old will now be looking to permanently establish himself in manager Martin O’Neil’s team.
