It has been confirmed that Alan Shearer will not be returning to Newcastle United as new manager Kevin Keegan’s deputy. The two held talks earlier in the week but Shearer could still return with a significant role.

After Keegan’s shock return media speculation was rife surrounding the potential deputy manager position at St James Park. A Keegan-Shearer dream ticket was the talk of Tyneside in the immediate wake of Sam Allardyce's departure earlier this month.

Kevin Keegan signed Shearer back in 1996 for a Newcastle United club record £15 million. The 2 will have fresh discussions next week regarding potential roles at the club. Shearer already acts as an ambassador for the club but many would like to see him take up a role and influence the team.
