Sevilla win Copa Del ReySevilla beat Getafe by a single goal at the Bernabeu to win the final of the Spanish Copa del Rey last Saturday. Frederic Kanoute scored the only goal in a game which also saw the striker dismissed for retaliating after a foul. The winner came after only 10 minutes which led to Sevilla winning the competition for the first time since 1948. It capped a perfect end to the season which saw the La Liga club lift the UEFA Cup and also finish third in their domestic league. Mali international Kanoute scored a calculated goal after a defensive error left him one on one with Luis Garcia. Kanoute scored 21 goals in the league during the course of the season and has also finished in each of the clubs cup finals. There were few clear openings during the remainder of the final but Sevilla managed to control the game well. The 89th minute saw the dismissal of Kanoute. The striker was fouled by Francisco Casquero but his violent and aggressive reaction led to his own red card. There was not enough time for Getafe to capitalize on their spare man and they created little worry to a side which has experienced it all during the course of the season. It was Getafe’s first Copa del Rey final but they failed to impact. Sevilla won with a narrow but convincing 1-0 win. Tags: Sevilla, Getafe, Copa del rey, Frederic Kanoute, UEFA Cup Posted: |
