Serie A October Update

Leaders Lazio made hard work of their visit to Palermo and managed to hold on to win courtesy of a single goal from Andre Dias and despite going down to ten men. Second place Inter Milan also managed a 1-0 away win thanks to a Sulley Muntari strike at Genoa on Friday night. However, a late Zlatan Ibrahimovic goal was not enough to stir rivals Milan to complete the comeback at home to Juventus who maintained the pressure in 4th. Juve’s winner at the San Siro was scored by Alessandro Del Piero and was his 179th strike for the club. It took him past Boniperti as the clubs record goal-scorer

In fact, Chievo were the only other side in the top ten to fail to take maximum points in the latest round of matches. Their opponents Parma lifted themselves off the bottom and out of the relegation zone with the single point earned as Bari, Bologna and Cesena all suffered defeats.

Roma’s win over Lecce was marred by the sending off of captain Francesco Totti who was dismissed after an off-the-ball clash with Ruben Olivera. Totti subsequently argued with security staff off the pitch. It was an unfriendly win in general as goal-scorer Mirko Vucinic refused to celebrate his strike with team-mate Marco Borriello after an earlier disagreement.

Following an earlier disagreement, Sampdoria forward Antonio Cassano has apologised to club president Riccardo Garrone. The striker has reportedly suffered personal issues but has shrugged off speculation that the affair may result in him leaving the club.
