Senna Left Out Of Spanish Squad

Villarreal midfielder Marcos Senna has been left out of Spain’s squad for the World Cup finals in South Africa.

The Brazilian-born 33-year-old, who was part of the Spain side that triumphed in the European Championship two years ago, endured an injury-hit season for the La Liga outfit, making only eight appearances.

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque already has a wealth of midfield talent at his disposal, with Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas and Xabi Alonso vying for positions in the starting line-up.

Del Bosque has called up three uncapped players. Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes and team-mate Pedro – who scored over 20 goals for the Catalan giants this season - have made the cut, while Athletic Bilbao’s midfield star Javi Martinez has also been named in the final 23-man party.

Sevilla winger Jesus Navas managed to force his way into the reckoning, despite retiring from the international scene earlier in his career due to anxiety attacks while travelling.

The favourites for the tournament qualified with a 100% record, winning all 10 of their games, and will open their campaign against Switzerland in Durban on June 16.
