Scolari Hit With Ban

Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has hit with a 4 match ban for his actions during Portugal’s Euro 2008 qualifier against Serbia. The fiery Brazilian latched out at coach Ivica Dragutinovic during the game and must now face the consequences. In addition to the match ban Scolari has been fined approximately £8.400 by UEFA disciplinary committee.

Scolari’s ban effectively rules him out for the remainder of Portugal’s qualifying matches. He will not be allowed on the bench, in the technical area or dressing room and will not be able to communicate with the team during the course of the match. He has effectively been banished to the stands and must rely on his coaching staff to manage the team during the games.

UEFA released the following statement: "The verdict means that Scolari will be banned from exercising his function as coach for the Euro qualifiers in Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan in October, and at home against Armenia and Finland in November.

"Before and during the match, he will not be allowed to go in the team dressing-room, the tunnel, or the technical zone, or on the pitch. In addition, he will not be allowed to communicate with his team."
