Schweinsteiger Seeing Too Much Red

Fresh from seeing team-mate Miroslav Klose receive the seventh red card of South Africa 2010 so far, Germany’s Bastian Schweinsteiger vented his frustration at the number of dismissals already handed out during the group stages of the World Cup.

The midfielder, who had previously backed Tim Cahill over his controversial sending off in their Group D encounter, said “If there is a red card at this World Cup in every game, you have to wonder where the sense is. It doesn’t make it much fun. I am lost for words, furious and bitterly disappointed.”

Klose received two cautions during the first half of their 1-0 defeat against Serbia. This was compounded by Lukas Podolski’s penalty miss and the Cologne forward apologised afterwards saying “I didn’t strike the penalty so badly, normally I am more accurate. But I have to hold my hands up to the miss.”
