Santa Cruz Delight After Making Long Term Commitment

Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz has spoken of his delight at finally being able to end the speculation surrounding his immediate future after agreeing a new four year contract with Blackburn Rovers.

The former Bayern Munich player had a wonderful debut season in the Premier League last year scoring 19 goals from 36 appearances. However, since Mark Hughes departed the club in the summer there have been constant rumours linking Santa Cruz with a move away from Ewood Park. Manchester City had a bid turned down and Manchester United and Arsenal were also reported to be interested in making a bid for the striker.

Following the announcement of the contract, Santa Cruz spoke on the club’s official website about his decision. He said “I am very happy because we got an agreement… I think it is great news for the fans, but also for the players, the gaffer and for me”.

The 27 year old has once again got off to a great start this season, having already scored for Blackburn in the opening day 3-2 victory against Everton. The Blackburn fans will be hoping that there are plenty more goals to come from him for many more years.
