Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce reckons his team needs one more win to secure Premier League safety.

 

Goals from Benni McCarthy and Ryan Nelson - his first for the club - gave Rovers a vital 2-0 win against North West neighbours Wigan. Yet despite the cushion the victory gives his team, Allardyce will look for his charges to bring home three more points before he considers the relegation battle won. “It's been a long battle out of the bottom-three first, now we've got ourselves clear of it in the last few weeks.”

The celebration following Sunday’s win was double for Ryan Nelson as he finally got off the mark at Ewood Park in his 141st appearance. His header from a free kick secured the points for Rovers. The Blackburn captain has taken more than four years to break his duck and the New Zealander celebrated in style.

Nelson has also admitted that he thinks the club made the right decision to fire Paul Ince. He has immense respect for Ince but thinks that the problems at Ewood before his departure may have been spotted by a more experienced manager, as evidenced by Allardyce when he took over.
