Sagnol jumps to Domenech’s defenceDefender Willy Sagnol has joined winger Frank Ribery and Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas in jumping to the defence of under fire French coach Raymond Domenech.
The Bayern Munich right back has reportedly stated that he would want Domenech to stay on till the 2010 World Cup, and added that France's dismal performance at Euro 2008 had not changed his decision. Sagnol started in the games against Romania and the Netherlands, but was replaced by Francois Clerc for the final group game against Italy
Domenech's successor is likely to be 1998 WC winning captain Didier Deschamps, who has been endorsed by Zinedine Zidane. However the legendary Eric Cantona has blasted Domenech, saying that under them, France played '' boring'' football and were too defensive. The former Manchester United footballer has also reportedly said that in his opinion, recruiting Deschamps would see France continue playing in the same vein as they are now.
Domenech's fate will be decided by the French Football Federation on July 3. Tags: Willy Sagnol, Raymond Domenech, Euro 2008 Posted: 29th June 2008 |
