Marek Sanganowski says he is ready to take the place of Maciej Zurawski for the meeting with Austria in Euro 2008. This happened after Coach Leo Beenhakker confirmed that the Poland captain will miss the encounter due to injury.

He is also unlikely to play the final group game against Croatia after limping out of the 2-0 defeat to Germany.

However, Saganowski insisted that he can step into the attack. "I feel in good shape, my confidence is high, and I hope that the coach gives me a chance," said the Southampton striker.

Leo Beenhakker is not sure how he will replace Zurawski. Roger Guerreiro, has had an impressive start as he replaced the former Celtic FC striker in Klagenfurt. He can be drafted as the extra midfielder or an attacker, leaving a number of formations open to Poland.

"I don't know what the coach wants to do for the next game because we are missing Zurawski, but I think we need to take the game to Austria and take them on.”

"We play with two wingers so the ball will be coming into the box and we need to have strikers in the box to take the chances. I think I have a chance of getting into the team and I know I can do well for Poland. This is a big match for us - it's a game we absolutely have to win so I would love the opportunity to play."

Poland are currently bottom of their group and have Austria and Croatia left to play.
