Rovers Somehow Miss Out On Ronaldinho

Blackburn Rovers’ owners Venky’s continue to fill newspaper column inches with their plans for their new acquisition, while recently-appointed manager Steve Kean has enlisted former Danish international John Jensen as assistant manager until the end of the season.

And more controversy stalks Senegalese striker El-Hadj Diouf in the aftermath of Rovers’ 1-0 FA Cup third round win over Championship high-flyers QPR last weekend.

Rovers were reportedly serious pursuers of the signature of star Brazilian midfielder Ronaldinho, who recently left Serie A giants Milan. The club were also one of many linked with David Beckham. But, unsurprisingly, neither player has made it to Ewood Park.

There is, however, a more realistic prospect of former Ewood favourite Roque Santa Cruz returning to Rovers as part of a player clear-out at big-spending Manchester City.

The Paraguayan international striker failed to establish himself at Eastlands under successive managers and current boss Roberto Mancini confirmed this week that “Roque will probably go to Blackburn.”

45-year-old Jensen was former Danish star Michael Laudrup’s assistant with Denmark and Spanish club Getafe.

Kean said: “John has a wealth of experience both here and abroad and his views and philosophies on football dovetail with mine.”

Diouf was accused of abusing QPR’s Jamie Mackie after the Scottish international suffered a leg double-fracture during the FA Cup-tie.

QPR players have claimed that Diouf was calling Mackie “all sorts” of names as the striker was stretchered off. The FA is to review these claims.
