Rooney Eyes England Trophy

Wayne Rooney has declared that it would be nothing short of disastrous if he were unable to win a major trophy with England. The Manchester United striker is relishing the prospect of working with new England manager Fabio Capello. Rooney believes the country can bounce back from Euro 2008 failure to lead a strong squad into future competitions.

The 22-year-old frontman stated: "A country with the talent we've got as footballers, we should be up there challenging for the two main trophies.

"It would be a disaster to finish my career and not win a major tournament."

The next major tournament for England will be the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Rooney will be 25 at the time of the finals. England have already been drawn in their qualification group for the competition. They face a mixed group of Croatia, Andorra, Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

England’s first game under new management will not take place until February. They will face Switzerland on home soil at Wembley on the 6th. England fans will be hoping Capello can bring his great club record to the national stage.
