Romania 4-0 Montenegro

Romania warmed up for their Euro 2008 opener against France by beating Montenegro 4-0 in an international friendly in Bucharest. However the manner of their defending would not have pleased Victor Piţurcă, who reportedly said that he had fielded a possible 11 to face Les Bleus.

Montenegro wasted an early chance to take a shock lead when Mirko Vučinić failed to convert from the spot in the first minute. Tamaş had brought down the Roma striker, but goalkeeper Bogdan Lobonţ saved Romania the blushes by guessing correctly. Vučinić gave Romania's defenders a torrid time, and it was certainly not a happy night for Stefan Radu, playing in place of the injured Dorin Goian.

Adrian Mutu gave Romania the lead with a left footed shot from the edge of the area in the fifteenth minute, after skipper Cristian Chivu had set him up. Substitute Sorin Ghionea, replacing Gabriel Tamaş, headed the second one home from a Florentin Petre corner after the break, and Nicolae Dică grabbed two more in the 54th and 69th minutes to give Victor Piţurcă's side a 4-0 win. Romania were in control for much of the second half, but it was their first half performance which would have troubled their manager and fans.
