Romania v SloveniaRomania will be looking to build upon its 2-1 victory over Slovenia in its away leg of the Euro 2008 qualifier match.
Two second half goals from Gabriel Tamas and Banel Nicolita gave a comfortable 2-0 lead for the Romanians with 20 minutes to spare. However Slovenia pulled one back deep into injury time and provided few seconds of anxiety for both Romanian fans and coach Victor Piturca before the final whistle blew.
The result leaves Romania at the top of the table with 14 points from 6 games. With the team unbeaten in the group so far, Piturca will be hopeful of a repeat performance at the Dan Paltinisanu stadium when both the teams meet again on June 6.
Slovenia coach Matjaz Kek was full of praise for the Romanian ream and said that they deserved the win. "We have to congratulate the Romanians, they were a gear faster and played without mistakes", he said. Kek can take some positives from the match, especially the form of his keeper Samir Handanovič, who saved a host of chances before he was beaten by Tamas. Both Romania and Slovenia will have to find replacements for Daniel Niculae and Bostjan Cesar since they will be missing the match after getting sent off in the second half. The match is scheduled for kick off at 19:00 at the Dan Paltinisanu stadium in Timisoara with Romania v Slovenia live online.
