Birmingham defender Liam Ridgewell has revealed that he thinks on loan striker Mauro Zarate should stay at the club for one more season.

Zarate has scored four goals in his last four games for Birmingham and has helped keep the club out of the relegation zone in the Premier League.

Zarate is on a loan deal from Qatar side Al-Sadd. He joined Birmingham in January until the end of the season and has caught the eye of some big clubs thanks to his performances for The Blues.

Ridgewell is hoping that Zarate will reject any offers from bigger clubs and stay at St Andrews and gain regular first team football.

Ridgewell said that Zarate has done well when he has come off the bench and scored some vital goals. I hope he stays as he is a great player and will benefit from playing regularly at Birmingham than going to a bigger club and sitting on the bench or in the reserve team.

Ridgewell added that he has got better by joining Birmingham and so have other players so it would be beneficial for Zarate to do the same, but he admitted the final decision is up to the player himself.
