Kevin Keegan has made a sensational comeback to Newcastle United 11 years after his first managerial spell at the club. Keegan has signed a 3 ½ year contract to the delight of fans and club owner Mike Ashley.

The search for Allardyce’s successor took a twist at the weekend when Harry Redknapp dropped out of the running. Chris Mort and Ashley have now given the fans the best boost possible by appointing a man who is legendary on Tyneside.

Keegan’s appointment was confirmed shortly before 4:30 on Wednesday. The former England boss told reporters: "It's nice to be home. I'm delighted to be back."

The new appointment had an instant effect on the club. An additional 10,000 tickets were sold for the Stoke FA Cup replay with fans hoping to get a glimpse of King Keegan. The late boom delayed kick off for 15 minutes. Media speculation also suggests Alan Shearer may take up the number 2 position at the club.
