Rehhagel wants commitment

Despite many members of the Greece squad playing their final game, Coach Otto Rehhagel still demands a performance worthy of defending champions and a strong finish to their UEFA Euro 2008 campaign.

Greece lost both their games against Sweden and Russia, and exited the European Championship, but Otto Rehhagel still wants the same commitment.

"It's my intention, and I've told my team the same, to play at 100 per cent, not to hold back. We must finish the tournament in a way that is worthy of our team. The new faces who will come into the lineup will have to show they deserve to play for the national team." Said Rehhagel

While Greece are yet to take a point or a goal from the tournament, their Spanish counterparts are completely the opposite and Rehhagel was quick to recognize this.

He said, "I think the Spain team is exceptional. They have proved their quality in the last two matches and we will have to be at our best tomorrow, even if their coach makes changes. It's important for us to play along the same lines as we did against Russia."

With Fanis Gekas missing out due to a cheek bone fracture obtained during their second game against the Russians, Rehhagel confirmed that Dimitris Salpingidis will play as striker. Also Giourkas Seitaridis and Vassilis Torosidis are likely to be replaced by Loukas Vintra and Nikos Spiropoulos.

Greece’s European campaign as defending champions, which promised so much, has disappointed many Greeks and neutrals. But a lack of commitment is something that won’t be expected against the mighty Russians.
