Real Madrid 3-1 Mallorca

Real Madrid won its first Spanish league title in four years with brilliant second half performance to overturn a 1-0 deficit to win the match 3-1 against Mallorca after being placed ahead of Barcelona due to better head-to-head record.

Fabio Capello's men started the match knowing that a victory will be enough for a record 30th league title. However things were not too rosy for Madrid, when Fernando Varela gave the visiting team the lead in the 16th minute.

Things got worse for the home side after top scorer Ruud van Nistelrooy had to be withdrawn from the game following an injury. Though Madrid pressed forward in search of a victory, they were unable to break through Mallorca's defense.

Over 82,000 fans in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium were praying for a better second half performance from their team after news came in that Barcelona was leading 3-0 against Gimnastic in the other match.

David Beckham hobbled off the pitch in his last game for Real Madrid after having injured his ankle and was replaced by Jose Antonio Reyes in the 65th minute. However it proved to be a blessing in disguise for Madrid as the Arsenal player scored almost immediately for Madrid after he latched on to a pass from Raul.

Fifteen minutes later Madrid fans were celebrating widely as Mahamadou Diarra's header was pushed against a Mallorca defender by keeper Miguel Moya and the ball rebounded into the net. Four minutes later, Reyes took the game out of Mallorca's reach with a splendid left-footer from outside the penalty area, sparking mad celebrations both on and off the pitch.
