The return of Michael Owen after a 10 month absence due to injury did little to bolster Newcastle United’s efforts as they fell foul of a 51^st minute goal for a 1-0 away loss.

It is exactly a year since Owen played for Newcastle in the English Premier League. Although he made an early impact he remained quiet throughout the game. Owen scored after only 7 minutes but his strike was ruled offside. The game also saw returning striker Ameobi coming close but ultimately disappointing by failing to convert a free header.

The only goal of the match came in the 51^st minute with Dave Kitson volleying in a Ki-Hyeon cross. Reading will be content with a win that steers them closer to a UEFA Cup placement. Newcastle United will be glad to see the return of 2 influential strikers but ultimately they will be disappointed at being unable to carry on their recent form.
