Rangers slip down the table

Rangers slipped to second in the table after a shock 1-0 defeat at St. Mirren. Despite dominating large periods of the game, Walter Smith’s men lacked the final touch throughout the 90 minutes and a superb effort from Stephen McGinn sealed the win after 77 minutes for St. Mirren.

Rangers captain Barry Ferguson is hopeful of a return to first team action by November, after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury back in July. Striker Kenny Miller is also hopeful of a return to first team action after withdrawing from the Scotland squad due to a hamstring injury.

The next Old Firm match has had its kick-off time rescheduled from 15:00 GMT to 12:30 GMT on the 27th December. The move was made to accommodate Setanta Sports, who are covering the game live. Remember, all live football including Scottish Premier League football is available online through the Live Sports Network.

Elsewhere, it was an eventful annual meeting at Rangers after chairman Sir David Murray called on fans to help rid the Ibrox club of a minority of fans who consistently spout “bile”. Murray was referring to numerous incidents, including last season UEFA Cup Final in Manchester and chants from sections of the crowd at last months Old Firm derby, which have presented the Rangers support in a negative light.

Rangers chief executive Martin Bain also caused a stir at the clubs annual meeting, by encouraging SPL clubs to accept the 5% away ticket charge that was implemented by both Celtic and Rangers this season. The Old Firm clubs have begun charging other SPL clubs a fee for selling tickets to Glasgow fans for away games. However, many clubs have rejected the idea and instead increased their ticket prices for the travelling Glasgow fans.
