Raids on 3 clubs

3 football clubs have been raided by police amidst allegations of corruption. English Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Portsmouth along with Scottish club Rangers were involved. The operation was not connected to the Quest inquiry led by Lord Steven’s.

In addition to club premises search warrants were issued for 2 homes. Each club has issued statements distancing themselves from the allegations. They claim that individuals are being investigated but not the clubs as a whole. Clubs have been asked to refrain from commenting further until the investigation is complete.

Detectives from London Police force have been investigating allegations for a number of months. Last month an elderly man was arrested in Manchester in association with money laundering.
