Pospech Ruled Out Of OpenerKarel Bruckner, the Czech Republic coach was told yesterday that defender Zdenek Pospech will not be available for their opening game of Euro 2008 against the hosts Switzerland. The FC Copenhagen player has been suffering from a virus and has not trained for the last few days. A Czech spokesperson said that although Pospech was not capable of participating in the opening game, they did not anticipate the need to call up a replacement.
Although not a regular for the national team, Pospech’s versatility makes him a useful player to have available. He is comfortable both in defense and in midfield and gives Bruckner options on the right. ![]()
It has also emerged from the Czech camp that recently appointed captain Tomas Ujfalusi sustained an abdominal injury and missed the last training session. However, the injury is believed to be mild and is not expected to keep the 31 year old from playing in the game against Switzerland on Saturday.
