Portsmouth Hand James A New Deal
Portsmouth have handed England goalkeeper David James a new contract that will keep him at Fratton Park until the end of the 2009-10 season. James, who is 37 years old, has been without a doubt one of Portsmouth’s best players this season and is also enjoying one of his best seasons in his career. He has helped Portsmouth reach the FA Cup Semi Finals after producing a brilliant display against Manchester United in the Quarter Finals. David James moved to the South Coast in 2006 after Portsmouth paid £1.2 million to Manchester City for him. Speaking after securing the new deal James couldn’t hold his excitement in and said that its very enjoyable playing for Portsmouth and that the way the club has moved forward since he joined is amazing and he is glad to be a part of that. Almost all Portsmouth fans would agree that James is one of the key reasons the club are in the FA Cup Semi Final and also sitting in the top 10 in the Premier League. His current form for Portsmouth has been so good that Fabio Capello named the keeper in his squad to face Switzerland and he beat off swift competition from some younger England keepers.
