Pompey Chimes Ring Time For Adams

Tony Adams became another Premiership managerial casualty when he was dismissed from the Fratton Park hot seat a mere four months after replacing Harry Redknapp following his departure for White Hart Lane.

Adams has overseen a run of nine games from which Pompey only managed a total of two points. The former Arsenal defender admitted that results hadn’t been the best but bemoaned a lack of resources and injuries to key players as having played a major role in the fortunes of the club. The 42 year-old said “I haven't had a lot of time here and I certainly haven't had the financial backing — that's tough to take. We've had a few injuries as well.”

His assistant Johnny Metgod was also dismissed as the board looked to improve their Premier League position with a change of direction at the top. Former Chelsea boss and Portsmouth technical director Avram Grant has bene linked with a return to the club as has former West Ham and Charlton manager Alan Curbishley.

Paul Hart, former Nottingham Forest boss and currently director of Portsmouth’s youth side, will play a caretaker role until Adam’s successor is appointed.
