Podolski ridicules passport threat

Lukas Podolski has ridiculed and dismissed a threat made to him by a Polish Politician of having his passport taken away, by revealing that he doesn’t have a Polish passport.

The Germany striker was born in Poland, but moved to Germany when he was just 2.

His 2 goals against Poland however left Miroslav Orzechowski, the Polish politician fuming, and threatening to take his passport away.

But Podolski replied. “The funny thing is, I don't even have a Polish passport. The Polish Football Association never showed an interest in me. Only when I played for the Under-21s and was in the public eye did they start to make moves.

Podolski didn’t celebrate either of the goals and insists that he will still have a good relationship with Poland, despite the politician’s comments.

“I made a decision for Germany and it was the right one. Still, I have two hearts beating inside me”. said the FC Bayern Munich striker.

Germany are sitting on top of Group B in Euro 2008, with 3 points and a goal difference of 2. The Germans take on second placed Croatia on Thursday, knowing that a win would see them sail into the knockout rounds, barring a miracle.

The other team in the group is co-hosts Austria.
