Switzerland coach Kobi Kuhn has received a massive boost on the eve of Euro 2008.  Following a training session last week, playmaker Tranquillo Barnetta accidentally collided with Gelson Fernandez.

Initial concerns were allayed as Swiss doctors confirmed that he had damaged ligaments in the ankle but it was unlikely to prevent Barnetta from making Switzerland’s opening match against the Czech Republic.

Kuhn’s preparations for Euro 2008 have been consistently interrupted by injuries to key players.  Key striker Alex Frei has only recently returned to full fitness after missing the majority of the season and experienced defender Patrick Muller only returned to the national team last Saturday after being sidelined since the start of the year.

Barnetta currently plays for Bayer Leverkusen in Germany and with his passing ability and eye for goal is expected to be a key player for Switzerland this summer.
