Pennants Parting Shot

Jermaine Pennant launched a scathing attack on Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez following his move to Fratton Park on loan until the end of the season.

Pennant started just 2 Premier League games this season under Benitez after a string of starts the previous season and lays the blame solely on the influx of foreign players. With only 6 months left on his contract at Anfield, Pennant will almost certainly be seeking alternative employment come the summer and he believes that last summers imports have driven home-grown players down the pecking order.

The former England Under-21 midfield said "I don't know if it is the English mentality he dislikes but there are not a lot of English players at Liverpool. I have mentioned that before when I was at Arsenal so I guess I have not had much luck with foreign managers.”

Pennant follows another English player Peter Crouch out of Liverpool due to lack of first team opportunities. He may ultimately decide to become an import himself as he has been linked to AC Milan and whilst he has yet to speak to the club, he admits that his agent may have.
