Park Ji-Sung – South KoreaPark Ji-Sung is the most famous member of South Korea’s 2010 World Cup finals squad, thanks to his successful career at EPL giants Manchester United. Park was South Korea’s top scorer in qualification with five goals, including late equalisers in both games against Iran, which virtually ensured his nation’s qualification. ![]() His club and international career burgeoned under Dutchman Guus Hiddink, who was in charge of South Korea’s semi-finalists in the 2002 World Cup tournament and brought Park to Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven in 2003. Park scored South Korea’s winner in their crucial final group game against Portugal. And he gradually became a pivotal part of PSV’s side. His displays caught Manchester United’s attention and he signed for them in 2005, where his versatility and workrate have made him the typical “unsung hero” of the EPL giants. Despite a starring role in United’s Champions League semi-final victory over Barcelona in 2008, Park was left out of the squad for United’s penalty Moscow final triumph. However, Park did become the first Asian player in a Champions League final when United failed to retain the trophy in 2009, losing 2-0 to Barcelona. Park has 87 international caps and has scored 11 international goals. Tags: Park Ji-Sung, South Korea, World Cup Posted: |
