Paraguay will be looking to improve on their disappointing performance from last time around when they kick off their World Cup campaign with a difficult tie against Italy. You can catch Paraguay Live at 2010 World Cup this summer here on Live Sport Network from South Africa.

Paraguay do not have a happy record in the World Cup with the side managing to qualify to the biggest competition in football for just eight times in 19 attempts. Their best performance in the competition was during the 1998 and 2002 World Cups when they managed to qualify out of the group stage.

Road to 2010 World Cup

Paraguay had an excellent qualifying campaign, finishing five points above Argentina to finish third in the CONEMBOL qualification table. Coach Gerardo Martino will be delighted with his side’s performances in the qualification campaign and will be optimistic that they maintain their form in the World Cup this summer.

Martino has decided to call up Lucas Barrios who becomes the fourth Argentinean to play for Paraguay. Salvador Cabanas has not been included in the 30-man provisional squad with the striker yet to recover from being shot in the head in January.
