O’Neil’s Season Is Over

Middlesbrough midfielder Gary O’Neil will miss the remainder of the Premier League season due to a knee ligament injury the club has confirmed.

O’Neil suffered the injury during last week’s draw at Tottenham and was substituted mid-way through the game. His knee was scanned and the scans showed that he had ligament damage.

O’Neil was immediately operated on and the problem should have healed by the time Middlesbrough get back into pre season training. It does mean that he will miss the rest of the campaign.

Middlesbrough’s doctor said that the surgery went well and that the operation was pretty simple. He added that O’Neil should have recovered in time to start pre-season training.

O’Neil moved to Middlesbrough from Portsmouth last summer for £5 million and has been instrumental in Boro’s season, providing a threat in front of goal and being good defensively.
