Nugent seals Pompey switch

England international striker David Nugent sealed a 6 million switch to Pompey from Championship outfit Preston North End. He has put pen to paper on a four year contract. Nugent spurned the chance to join Roy Keane’s Sunderland in order to partner with Redknapp on the South Coast. Nugent scored on his England debut coming on as a substitute against Andorra in Barcelona and has been a prolific scorer at the Under 21 and club level. The reason Nugent decided to join Pompey was to boost his chances of playing regularly for the England first team.

Nugent becomes Redknapp’s sixth signing of the summer. Pompey are also tracking John Utaka in order to solve their attacking problems ahead of the new season wherein they aim to make it to one of the UEFA Cup spots.
